Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who is under scanner for allegedly inspiring Dhaka attackers, was elected to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) inner council in 2013.
The AMU Court or the inner council review acts of the varsity’s executive and academic council. The 191-member council comprises of vice chancellor and pro-VC, principals of affiliated colleges, donors amongst others.
He was elected as a ‘representative of Muslim culture and learning’ in the inner council, which take all the important decisions.
TOI reported that his term ended on June 11, 2016 after serving the council for three years.
Recently, Centre withdrew an appeal filed in Supreme Court which sought to retain the minority tag for the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
