The PR team of Zakir Naik alleged that hotels in Mumbai have been asked not to give out venue for any press conference to the controversial Islamic preacher.
DNA reports that the Mumbai Police have refuted the allegations calling them “baseless”.
“These allegations are baseless. Mumbai Police has no role in this,” the Mumbai Police said.
Naik’s PR team claims that at least four hotels – Taj Hotel, ITC Grand Central, Saahil hotel and World Trade Centre in Cuffe Parade – cancelled their booking.
According to reports, his spokesperson said, “It’s weird – and unfair – what’s going on. Apparently, hotels in Mumbai have been told not to give out venue for Dr Zakir Naik’s press conference.”
The NIA is, however, planning to contact him. Special teams scanned his speeches and a strong legal case against him is being reportedly prepared.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has begun scrutiny of the files related to the foreign funding of Naik’s NGO Islamic Research Foundation (IRF). The funding has been traced to Saudi Arabia and UK.
Naik had previously raised fingers at the “media trial” against him.
His team claims that Naik wants to hold a press conference and not a public speech. Naik is currently on a tour of Africa.
