Yuvraj Singh Gets Trolled For Requesting People To Celebrate Pollution-Free Diwali

Published on 9 October, 2017 at 7:28 pm By

Diwali is one of the festivals that India celebrates with huge devotion and fanfare. People decorate their homes, offices, streets, temples etc., with lights, candles, lamps and other decorations to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. Among other things that people do to celebrate the festival, lighting firecrackers is also one prominent action.

Every year, millions of firecrackers are burnt which leads to a lot of air and noise pollution and is opposed by a number of environmentalists, celebrities and common people. This year, same was done by Yuvraj Singh. Fondly known as ‘Yuvi’ among his fans, the cricketer posted a video on his Facebook and Twitter pages requesting people not to burn firecrackers this Diwali and instead celebrate the festival in other environment-friendly ways.

In the video, he can be heard requesting everyone to take responsibility this year and not burn crackers because the air after that becomes very unhealthy and unnatural for children, elderly and everyone else.

He urged people to spread love and happiness, hug people, eat sweets, play cards, but stay away from crackers. He also said that little children roam about wearing masks because the pollution after Diwali is very disturbing.

But as the cricketer sent across a message crucial for the environment, social media users started trolling him for reminding of environmental and other hazards of burning firecrackers only around Diwali and not raising the issue around cricket matches when crackers are burnt or when other festivals such as Eid are approaching.

Here are some of the tweets trolling Yuvraj for his message about pollution on Diwali:

While most of the people responded to his tweet with trolls, there were a few who supported his call. Have a look at these tweets below:

Today, the Supreme Court upheld its 2016 ban on sale of firecrackers in Delhi. And many people have expressed their anger over it.
