According to Hindustan Times wrestler, Yogeshwar Dutt’s London Olympics Bronze might just become Gold as gold medalist Toghrul Asgarov too has failed a dope re-test.
Earlier this year news about Yogeswar’s Bronze medal turning into silver had come in after it was learned that silver medalist Besik Kudukhov’s London Olympics sample had failed WADA’s advanced re-testing.
Though no confirmation has come in from International Olympic Association (IOA) yet, HT claims, grappler Yogeshwar will get Gold as he was ranked higher between the two bronze medallists.
They also claim that United World Wrestling (UWW), the governing body of Olympic wrestling, is yet to get WADA’s report on Asgarov failed dope re-test and thus he has not been officially informed yet.
If Dutt’s gold is confirmed, he would become India’s second individual gold medallist after shooter Abhinav Bindra.
Reacting to the news Dutt told HT:
Dutt had earlier said that if the upgrade to Silver happens, he wanted wrestler Kudukhov’s family to keep his medal as he respects him as a fellow wrestler.
Kudukhov had died in a car crash in 2013 and his 2012 sample had tested positive of a banned substance in August 2016.
