Meet the 26-year-old Yasir Khar who became the first Indian to feature on the cover of a United Aran Emirates (UAE) fitness magazine ‘REPs UAE’.
The magazine was launched last year by REPs which recognises itself as an organisation that testifies the qualifications and expertise of fitness professionals in the UAE.
Khan, who hails from Bhopal, said that he trained very hard for more than a year to feature on the cover of the magazine.
To achieve this feat, he defeated 32 more fitness trainers from around the world.
“It is a major achievement for me in my career as a fitness trainer. The journey was difficult but it paid off,” he said.
The youngster, who also featured in MTV series Splitsvilla in 2014, tells that it wasn’t an easy road for him.
Born in a middle-class Muslim family, he wasn’t appreciated for joining a gym at the age of thirteen. People use to make fun of him. Moreover, the gym didn’t have any proper infrastructure.
“My dad is a farmer. We had financial crunch. Since my childhood, I had a vision. I didn’t get along with other children. When I joined gym, it became my best friend.”
Also, he didn’t know the English language. “I was sent to a Madarsa and not an English medium school,” he says.
So, he learned the language on his own through online courses.
Determined to make it big, he did many odd jobs like selling milk, being a shopkeeper amongst others to save money for a nutritious diet. He moved out to Delhi in 2007.
“In 2011, I got my first big break. I made it to the cover of men’s health magazine,” he said.
Since he did not have the money to set up a gym of his own, he decided to go online.
He is now quite a popular figure with more than 80,000 followers on various social networking platforms.
“I started online training and people appreciated my work. Many were benefitted by my routine and diet. I also motivated them to workout. Now I have brands like ‘Limitless Supplements’ from New Zealand to support me,” he says.
In future, he is planning to launch his own fitness show on television.
