Over the past few weeks, animal rights activists had tried their best to stop the Yulin festival. Why? Yulin, a city in China, celebrates the summer solstice each year by feasting on dogs. Over 10,000 dogs are killed on this day despite many people protesting within China and from all corners of the world.
Yang Xiaoyun runs an animal shelter in Tianjin. Upset by the dog meat festival, the 65-year-old traveled over 2,400 kilometers and spent $1,000 to save 100 dogs from the gruesome fate that awaited them.
