Delhi Hospital Doctors Remove World’s Largest Kidney, 6 Times The Weight Of A Football

Believe it or not, doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi  have removed the world’s largest kidney from a patient suffering from a kidney-related ailment.

According to doctors,  the kidney weighs 2.75 kgs!

The dimensions of this huge kidney is 33 x 20 x 20 cms. It happens to be the world’s largest kidney removed till date.

The kidney was removed from a 45-year-old patient after a three-hour-long operation.

Dr. Manu Gupta, Consultant Urological Surgeon at the hospital who performed the surgery said: “ We found the procedure quite challenging. Normal kidneys weigh approximately 130 grams. This kidney weighed 2.75 kgs, which is 20 times more, and was stuck to the surrounding intestines.”

According to the Guinness Book of World Records,  a kidney weighing 2.15 kg was the  world’s largest kidney which was  removed in Dhule, Maharashtra in 2011.

Normally, kidneys which are bean shaped are of dimensions 14cm x 6cm x 4cm.
