The story of a working woman posted by Humans of Bombay is going viral. It has been shared more than 2,000 times.
The woman, who was going home after work, was immersed in thought about what to cook for dinner.
She expressed her wish that just for once, she doesn’t have to do household work.
”Ive had an exhausting week, working long hours — I wish just once, I could go home and not have work; that someone would cook for me and pamper me,” she said.
Then she went on to raise a very important question: Why isn’t household work counted as proper ‘work’?
“Men work 8 hours a day in the office and every minute is accounted for but most of us middle-class women work those 8-hour shifts and many hours after and before at home…but that’s completely undermined”
She adds that she doesn’t understand why this discrimination happens. After the post was uploaded, many women and men extended their support to her.
It’s high time to recognise household work as proper work.
