It is that time of the year again when Maharashtrian people all around the country are celebrating the festival of Gudi Padwa with great fervor and enthusiasm. Gudi Padwa, known as the Hindu New Year, as per Shalivahan Shaka calendar, is welcomed with a lot of fun-filled activities that everyone enjoys with their family.
Though it is common to see rallies on this occasion, it is not common to see young girls and women riding bikes wearing traditional sarees. This year it happened in Mumbai where women bikers rode two-wheelers to celebrate the festival. Have a look at the pictures.
‘Mumbai Chi Mulgi’ rode bikes in the festival’s rally wearing a turban drape on their heads and donning sarees in traditional Maharashtrian style paired with sunglasses.
Even Mumbai’s scorching heat couldn’t dampen their zeal and excitement.

It seems like the participation of women in such rallies have increased with the passing year.
Their pagdi rides on motorcycles and involvement in dhol-Tasha and other cultural activities like sword-playing show their love for this festival.
