A father plays an important role in a child’s development from birth through adulthood. What if he tends to be a hero for the country too? This has happened with this young woman lieutenant when she realized that her father who took care of her for the entire life, also gave his best to protect the nation.
A woman lieutenant was beginning her initiation tour in the Indian army and she stumbled upon a post at the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh.
The signboard, that was posted at 14000 feet, at Kyapho in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh read: ‘Welcome to Ashish Top’.
This left her wondering the real story behind the name ‘Ashish’.
After getting more information, the lieutenant learnt that the top was named after her retired dad ‘Colonel Ashish Das’.
This proud feeling let her call her father as soon as she realized.
Ashish told the TOI:

“I was at home when I received a call from the commanding officer of the unit manning Ashish Top. He introduced himself and described how my daughter had broken down on coming to know that the post was named after me”.
He also added:
“I may have told my family of our unit’s exploits in that sector in 1986 but my daughter was not even born then. Even I came to know about this post being named after me only in 2003, 17 years after we beat back troops of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and occupied the post at 14,000 feet.”
This incredible story made the daughter proud of her father knowing that her dad is not only her hero but for the rest of the people of the nation too.
