Shailee Shah is a 41-year-old resident of Gurugram. She is providing relief to the poor in this sweltering heat by distributing chilled drinking water for free.

She hands over chilled 500ml pet water bottles during daytime to beggars, construction workers, household helps, and whosoever needs it.

Shah, along with her family, has distributed over 3,500 water bottles in the last two months. She came across the idea when a boy at traffic signal asked for water.

“Water is essential for life and, in summer, the chances of dehydration are very high. I and my family distribute the bottles to people regardless of their profession and provide them some relief from the soaring temperature,” Shah told HT.

Through her Facebook page Smile Collectors, Shah has encouraged people to participate in her mission.

“A few of my friends are distributing bottles in different cities such as Mumbai and Bengaluru. One of my friends from Ahmadabad recently gave me 100 caps to distribute along with water,” she said.
