With WhatsApp facing huge outcry after their recent update killed the old “status” option, reports now claim that the developers are working towards an update which will revive the old feature.
The Beta Testers of the new update, which will bump it to version 2.17.95, have hinted that the new version may add a feature which would add a text message option which will not disappear after 24 hours.
This new feature will again be available in settings section and to view or change their status the user would have to tap on the three dots at the top right corner, go to Settings, click on the display picture and in the ‘About’ section set their status.
At present, though, this feature would only be available for Android beta testers and users on other platforms would have to wait.
Once the testing is over and the kinks cleared, the developers may roll out to feature to other interfaces as well.
WhatsApp had received a lot of backlash in the recent past when they had updated they status bar to Snap Chat like feature, which allowed one to add pictures and gifs but used to disappear after 24 hours.
Besides bringing back the old feature, they have also introduced separate buttons to make voice and video calls, which would make it easier to access and initiate calls via the app.
