A cricket match between India and Pakistan is not just a match. It’s a matter of emotions and a question of respect for both countries. It is a war-like situation not only between the players but between the people as well. Fans of both teams do all sorts of things from heading to the stadium in another country where the match is being played to doing special prayers for the victory of their team.
But, cricket is just a game that one team wins and the other loses. And when one team loses to another, the fans of the losing team get disheartened and react in their own ways. Pakistan’s legendary cricketer, Wasim Akram, once revealed that Pakistanis gave them an awful welcome when they reached the airport after losing a match to India.
Wasim Akram, during an Indian chat show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, said that people in Pakistan reach the airport with garlands made of shoes, and donkeys to welcome the cricket team when they lose a match to India. He went on to say that it is fun as it builds the pressure and that he enjoyed playing against India.
Wasim Akram said a lot more about Pakistan’s cricket team and how they are treated in their country. He said that he had guided Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan, on his bowling skill and the Pakistani media took this illogically. According to him, he had just taught some normal things about bowling to Irfan which the latter picked up very quickly and must be appreciated for that. Akram said that the fact that the media and his own team’s batsmen complained to him for guiding Irfan shows their mentality.
He further said that he has never cared about any complaints that Pakistani media has with him and he will never care about them. There was a lot more discussed between the Pakistani cricketer and Rajat Sharma on the episode of ‘Aap Ki Adalat’.
