Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has come up with a striking statement regarding gay marriage in Russia. Putin, in a recent interview, shared his thoughts about encouraging family reinforcement in his country and that can only be a success once people understand why it is important to stop gay marriage.

In an interview given to pro-Russian journalist Oliver Stone, he quoted,

I can tell you this… as head of state today, I believe it’s my duty to uphold traditional values and family values. Why? Because same-sex marriages will not produce any children.

He further added,

God has decided, and we have to care about birth rates in our country. We have to reinforce families. That doesn’t mean that there should be any persecution against anyone.

He insisted on the statement that it is his duty to stop the citizens of Russia from moving towards same sex tie-ups. The interview is now being widely discussed and aired on Showtime in the US this week.

According to him, growing up in traditional families is better for children. He also rallied against same-sex adoption. He mentioned that he can’t say that gay adoption is welcomed by the people of Russia.

I say this frankly. As in my view, children will have a freer choice when they become adults if they grow up in a traditional family. There is no situation like in some Muslim countries where homosexuals face death penalty. We have no restrictions or harassment based on gender. Moreover, many people explicitly talk about their non-traditional sexual orientation.

He also said that many people of the LGBT community have achieved outstanding results in their activities and they have been getting state awards for their achievements.

In 2013, Russia passed a gay propaganda law, which has been used to clamp down on LGBT people.

But, Putin insisted,

The reasoning behind this law is to provide children with the opportunity to grow up without impacting their consciousness. When they grow up, they may take any decision on their future, including private and sexual ones.
