Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav set the media on fire when they came together ahead of the elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Their jugalbandi was evident in their first joint press conference and the joint rallies they held.
But this jugalbandi is being mocked at by some. One of them is Virender Singh, who is a Member of the Parliament from Bhadohi.
An agriculturalist, Virender Singh is known for taking note of the problems of the people in his constituency. And being a BJP leader who won the 2014 General Elections from a district next to Varanasi in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Singh has the gift of rustic wit.
Speaking in the Parliament, Singh first told Hema Malini, a BJP MP herself, that he has nothing against films but what Gandhi and Yadav did was filmy.
That was not all. He took a dig at the friendship between Gandhi and Yadav in the Parliament in a classic Banarasi style.
“Someone who saw that rally asked me ‘what is happening’. I said ‘I don’t know. I think they are shooting for a film’,” he says.
And then he delivers this one-liner, a saying popular during his college days: “Hum tumhe nazar nahin aaye, chal dariya mein dub jaye.” (So that we are not visible to you, let us drown in the river.)
The moment was so hilarious that even Narendra Modi couldn’t control his laughter.
Hahaha! MP Virender Singh defines Jodi of ‘Rahul and Akhilesh’ in his typical Banarsi Style. Epic! pic.twitter.com/9fbYnRuoSk
