Virat Kohli was seen playing a charity football match at Mumbai Football Arena in Andheri Sports Complex on 4th June, 2016.

The match was between Indian cricketers and film stars. Though the match ended in a 2-2 draw, the cause for which it was played emerged as the winner.

The match was named the Celebrity Classico 2016, between cricketers’ team ‘All Hearts’ and the film stars’ team ‘All Stars’.

According to sources, the idea was proposed by Aditya Thackeray, president of Shiv Sena’s youth wing, Yuva Sena.

Abhishek’s charity ‘Playing for Humanity’ and Virat Kohli’s charity ‘The Virat Kohli Foundation’ were behind this initiative.

The whole motive behind this initiative was to raise funds for those affected by the severe drought in Maharashtra.

Aditya Roy Kapur, Shoojit Sircar, and Raj Kundra, among others, were in the All Stars team captained by Ranbir Kapoor. Whereas Virat’s team, All Hearts, had players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, R Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, and Yuvraj Singh, among others. Sircar and Ranbir’s trainer, Antonio Pecora, scored two goals for the All Stars. For All Heart, it was Yuvraj Singh and KL Rahul who scored the goals.

Abhishek Bachchan made it clear that he will not be playing in the match because of an injury.

He gave his views about the match and said:

Well it was a draw and we’re very happy because the last time we played we lost by one goal. I’m very proud of Ranbir and the entire team. They played with all their hearts. We are very proud and honoured that we got the opportunity to play against the Indian cricket team.

He added:

A draw is as good as a win. At the end of the day, we did this for a great cause — to raise awareness and funds for drought victims. It doesn’t matter who wins or loses. The people we did it for win at the end of the day.

Ranbir and Abhishek are co-owners of football teams in the Indian Super League. Ranbir was seen playing with full enthusiasm and he also talked about how much he likes playing football.

It’s been my favourite sport since childhood and we all took it seriously. We play every Sunday. We’re really happy that we can play for such a good cause.
