India’s January 15 ODI match against England proved to be a special one for batsman Virat Kohli as not only was it his first match as Indian’s ODI captain, but it was the match where he once again proved his class by bettering Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

Playing his 177 ODI match, Kohli played a crucial innings for his team when he scored the 27th ODI century of his career.
While Kohli was caught by Willey on the score 122, he still managed to help India reach the target of 351 while slamming his 17th run chase century.
With this, he now has equalled Sachin’s record for a batsman with most hundreds in run chases, and also surpassed Sachin by becoming the first batsman to score 15 centuries in successful run chases.
It must be noted that while Tendulkar’s record of scoring most hundreds in run chases came in 232 innings. Kohli achieved this feat in just 96 innings.
Kohli is also now the batsman who has played fewest number of innings to achieve 27 ODI centuries.
