The social service organization of Sulabh International has adopted a village in Haryana with an aim to carry out development work. The foundation stone was laid by Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak in an event at which a unique publicity exercise was carried out by the company. They have named the village ‘Trump Sulabh Village’ after the American President.
Permission for naming the village after Donald Trump was duly sought from the officials of the Republican Party.

Sulabh International aims to transform the Marora village of Haryana into a completely open-defecation free (ODF) village. Presently, Marora has around 165 families, out of which only 20 have toilets and the rest of them defecate in the open. Apart from giving a toilet to every household in the village, other development activities that the company has planned for the village are creation of a panchayat bhavan, school, roads, and facility of potable drinking water.

However, considering Donald Trump’s views on the Muslim community, the naming of the village seems quite ironical, since most of Marora’s 2000-odd residents are Muslim. By renaming the village after one of the most popular world leaders, Sulabh International aims to draw attention to Marora and its state of underdevelopment.
The day was celebrated with much excitement among the locals of the village who stood in front of huge posters of Trump and got photographs clicked. None of them knew who Donald Trump is, or his views on their religion. They were just enjoying the fame that this apparently famous man had brought to their small village.
The renaming of the village has brought hopes to the villagers that their tiny village, in one of the most backward areas of Haryana, will also witness development soon.
