On April 18, news about liquor baron Vijay Mallya getting arrested by the Scotland Yard was making waves and it gave many hope that the legal process would soon be initiated and that Mallya would finally be deported to India.

But even as people started to celebrate the fact, the UK court granted him bail and Mallya was once again a free man who was soon laughing at the Indian media.

It was barely 3 hours before Mallya had got his bail and people were shocked over his super-quick jail free card and how he got it.

While his next hearing was scheduled May 17, media outlets started to do some digging and found that Mallya paid a whopping to 650,000 pounds i.e. Rs 5 crores 38 lakhs for his bail.

Further, he was asked to surrender his passport to get it.

While we all debate how huge this bail amount is, it will not come as a shock for many as the man has already defaulted on loans worth Rs 9,000 crores and thus Rs 5 crores should n0t be a big deal for him.

While we now understand Mallya’s quick bail, one must also note that this doesn’t mean he has once again gotten away as he has been given strict orders by the UK court.

Mallya till his next hearing must abide by the extradition rules of Britain and can’t change his address. Also, as the India government revoked his passport last year, he needs to surrender the same and not keep any international travel documents with him. Lastly, he must be in constant touch with the UK authorities and must keep his phone on at all times.
