The locals believe that Uttarakhand is both the land of the brave and the gods – Devbhumi and Veerbhumi. Of course, the state is home to some of the most important temples of Hindu faith and also accounts for the highest number of soldiers in the Indian Army.
There is only one district in Uttarakhand which can now boast of being the home of three of the most powerful men in India – Pauri Garhwal.
Pauri Garhwal is located to the south of the state and shares a border with Uttar Pradesh. The district has the birthplaces of the next Indian Army Chief Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, next R&AW chief Anil Dhasmana and current NSA Ajit Doval.
Lt Gen Bipin Rawat hails from Siana village of the district.
He will take over as the 26th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on January 1, 2017. The General is currently the Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOS) and has been selected over his seniors for his operational experience along the LoC.
At the same time, the Indian government appointed Anil Dhasmana as the next chief of Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). He will succeed Rajinder Khanna.
Dhasmana, a 1981-batch IPS Officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre hails from Toli village of Pauri Garhwal.
We already have Ajit Doval as the National Security Adviser (NSA), who hails from Ghiri Banelsyun village of the district.
Doval was appointed NSG in 2014 and continues to head the crucial post.
