The US President has signed a new sanctions bill against Russia which has escalated a trade war between the two superpowers.

The US Congress has welcomed the new sanctions, a sharp deviation from what Trump believes in. The Trump administration had been working on improving  relations with Russia and the new sanctions bill bring out a full trade war and may end US-Russia ties.

Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, responded to this by saying that this will bring out a trade war and that the Trump government had demonstrated utter powerlessness. He added,

The hope that our relations with the new American administration would improve is finished.

However, Trump in response to the new bill of sanctions said,

While I favor tough measures to punish and deter aggressive and destabilizing behavior by Iran, North Korea, and Russia, this legislation is significantly flawed.

The new law allows the US Congress to halt any effort of Trump to ease sanctions on Russia. Russia has been accused of interfering in the US Presidential elections and on Crimea. In his statements on the new bill, Trump said that the bill was passed with such a great majority that even the President’s vote wouldn’t have weighed the scales to the other side.

The legislation has attracted counter measures from Russia. Russia has asked US to reduce its staff by 755 people and the Russian government will seize two properties used by American diplomats in Moscow. Putin has been trying to improve  relations between the two countries but the latest sanctions may not let that happen.
