2018 is expected to be a great year for upcoming Bollywood films. This is equally true for the films that have released so far this year. From January to June 2018, more than 50 films have been released. This includes both small and big budget films. All of these films have collectively done a good business. On an average, at least one film has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark each month. The films released in the first half of 2018, that have done a business of more than Rs 100 crore are ‘Padmaavat‘, ‘Baaghi 2’. ‘Raazi’, ‘Race 3’, ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’, ‘PadMan’, ‘Raid’, ‘Veere Di Wedding’, ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ and ‘Sanju’.
Out of these films, ‘Padmaavat’ is the top grosser of the year so far, followed by ‘Sanju‘ and ‘Race 3’. While ‘Padmaavat’ has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark globally, ‘Sanju’ is also expected to cross it soon. So undoubtedly, the first half of 2018 has been one of the best periods for Bollywood in terms of films’ content as well as their business.
Now as the second half of the year has already begun, stakeholders, as well as audiences, have their eyes on what the industry has to offer during this part of the year. Between July and December, we will see close to 40 films releasing. The total money invested in these films is close to Rs 1200 crore.
These films include some upcoming Bollywood films by the bigwigs of Bollywood, such as Aamir Khan’s ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Zero’. The budget of the former one is over Rs 200 crore while that of the latter is Rs 150 crore. At least these two films would be on the bucket list of every Bollywood fan because of their grand scale and star power. This is precisely the reason why makers are releasing these films around the festival holidays of Christmas and Diwali.
Apart from these two, there are many more upcoming Bollywood films by big stars like Ranveer Singh‘s ‘Simbaa’, Ajay Devgn’s ‘Total Dhamaal’, Arjun Kapoor’s ‘Namaste England’, ‘Tiger Shroff’s ‘Student of the Year 2’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ and Sushant Singh Rajput’s ‘Drive’. All of these films have the potential to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.
But there is a lot more that our film industry will be offering to the audiences in the second half of this year. There are some really cool content driven films like ‘Stree’, ‘Fanney Khan’, ‘Karwaan’, ‘Mental Hai Kya’ and ‘Sui Dhaaga’. These films have their own market and can really turn out be winners at the box office if they manage to impress the viewers.
Then there is much talked about, Janhvi Kapoor’s debut film ‘Dhadak‘ which can also surprise the industry and the audience with its business. So the second half of 2018 is also expected to be as good as the first half, in terms of entertainment for Bollywood fans, and in terms of business for stakeholders of these films.
