Two army soldiers were martyred and four militants were killed in an encounter on February 12 morning in Frisal area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
At around 4:30 AM on February 12, the army, police and para-military forces, cordoned off a village in Kulgam, 60 km from Srinagar, after receiving information that terrorists were hiding.
Despite repeated check on all the houses yielded no success, the security forces rechecked a house where the intelligence input had suggested about the presence of the militants.
During the search operation inside a house, the security personnel located a false ceiling where the militants were hiding.
On being spotted, the troops, the militants started firing heavily in which two jawans identified as Lance Naik Raghuvir Sigh and Lance Naik Gopal Singh Badoria got martyred.
In the gunfight, four terrorists were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire.
The gunfight led to three jawans getting seriously injured, who were later airlifted to Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar and their condition was stated to be stable.
Four AK-47 rifles have been recovered from the site of the encounter.
The police ascertained the identity of the slain militants, and said all of them were locals and associated with a militant group, Hizbul Mujahideen.
Director General of Police S P Vaid said that security forces had achieved a major success by gunning down four militants.
