Vice-President, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, gave quite a blunt interview ahead of his his last day in office. In one of his comments, Ansari questioned the liberty of Muslims living in India.

Citing the political problems in India, Ansari stated, “There is a feeling of unease and a sense of insecurity among the Muslims in the country”. He asserted that the “ambience of acceptance” is now under threat.

He further mentioned that hyper-nationalism and the closing of the mind are also a manifestation of insecurity about one’s place in the world.

Ansari’s words certainly hurt the sentiments of a lot of people who believe in the genuine secular principles of India. No one sees Muslims in poor light and many Muslims enjoy the highest level of love and appreciation from India’s majority Hindu community.

It is because of this reason that people are strongly criticizing Ansari’s speech on various social platforms:

Indeed, Ansari’s comment was unwarranted and does not befit someone who was the Vice-President of India for 10 long years.
