On January 18, the Supreme Court set aside the notification passed by the states of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial Padmaavat. The apex court has also restrained all other states from issuing such a ban on the exhibition of the film starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor.
In order to mitigate the storm surrounding the release of the film, the Central Board of Film Certification decided to take the responsibility of mitigating the whole issue. The review committee of the CBFC and a special panel of historians recommended five modifications which have been incorporated by the filmmakers.
But despite all of these things done, the Shri Rajput Karni Sena isn’t satisfied. In a show of strength, the group earlier this week took out a massive rally in Dholpur in Rajasthan to demand a countrywide ban on Padmaavat.
Moreover, the Karni Sena women have also threatened to perform Jauhar or mass self-immolation on January 24 upon the release of the controversial film.
Comparing Sanjay Leela Bhansali to Sultan Alauddin Khilji, a member of Karni Sena said that committing Jauhar was their “last resort” to safeguard the dignity and heritage of Rani Padmini.
And Twitter had also sorts of reactions to protests and threats by Karni Sena. Take a look at them below:
Karni Sena has hurt Rajput pride way more than any movie could have.
This is what happens when a group of privileged ignorant and jobless people take up a irrelevant cause.
I am a Rajput and I denounce Karni Sena and their stance.#Padmaavat

Do BJP CMs have the guts to take Karni Sena leaders into preventive custody to prevent them from vandalising theatres showing Padmaavat? Does India have a string-willed prime minister to tell them to do so? Or are they all busy appeasing Rajput votes for one by-poll in Ajmer?

If karni sena does violent protests to stop the release of #Padmavat on 26th then government should not hesitate to declare them a terrorist organization.
