On all Rakhis, we expect all the frogs to come out and croak! By that, I mean for all the mooh bole bhais (so-called brothers) to protect their ‘sisters’ from the evil. Raksha Bandhan, as it’s known for ages, is the epitome of sibling love. At least first I thought it was for my brother only until we were made to tie Rakhis on our school friends as well! This tradition has continued feverishly, but Bollywood actress Twinkle Khanna’s Rakhi message is now catching all the attention.

Recently, Twinkle, who is very active on social media, posted a dig at her husband Akshay Kumar that ‘he looks at his food with more love than her.’

As we know Akshay Kumar is always part of her trolls in some way or the other. In 2017, Twinkle gave it back when Twitter user made a sarcastic jibe at them in 2017:

Staying true to her image, she responded back like any (protective) wife would do:

Now, Twinkle Khanna’s Rakhi message has grabbed some eyeballs. Personally, for me, this occasion means loads of mithai, imported chocolates, and a smell of sibling love all around!

But Mrs Funnybones who has 3.7 million Instagram followers and 5.7 million Twitter followers, ended up trying to change the very notion of Rakhi!

Since we are talking about Raksha Bandhan, we can’t forget Mughal emperor Humayun’s sob story. Legend has it that Rani Karnavati sent a rakhi seeking his protection against Bahadur Shah but Humayun’s untimely arrival at Chittor made his ‘rakhi sister’ burn herself in a fire.

In the 15th century, women needed protection but in 2018, women like Vinesh Phogat just won a gold in women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling at 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast!

“The helpless Indian woman who needs raksha from her brother is a creature of the distant past”, according to Twinkle Khanna‘s Rakhi message.

What is this amphibian way? It refers to celebrating the concept of protection and love, minus any gender bias. We agree with you Twinkle because you just made it cooler for all the girls now!

How about checking out all that sibling love between our B-town celebs? Here are some adorable moments of how these famous siblings celebrated Rakhi:
