Mumbai saw its first transgender wedding when Madhuri Sarode and Jay Sharma admitted publically that one of them is transgender. They became the first couple to admit this openly. After seeing each other for two years, they decided to marry according to Hindu customs.
The inspiring story of Madhuri and Jay caught the attention of a 25 year-old photographer, Anu Pattnaik. Anu decided to stay with the couple for some days as she wanted to capture their love in her camera.
While talking about the couple, Anu Pattnaik said,
I wanted to capture them in their most intimate moments to show the world that love knows no gender, no boundaries and that it is a normal thing to go ahead and marry the person you fall in love with.
“There is a lot to learn from this exceptional couple,” she added.
“Their determination to take a stand for each other…”
“Or Jay’s audacity to take pride in Madhuri…”
“…and Madhuri’s courage to fight for her community by applying for the marriage certificate as a transgender — these are the qualities that love needs especially in today’s time.”
Madhuri and Jay’s love is unique and that’s what made Anu capture them in her camera. She wanted the world to know their story…
Often, we fall in love but forget how to love and respect the other person with dignity and effort.
