There was a time when the ravishing valleys of Kashmir were the favorite tourist spot of India. But now, the situation appears altogether different. Owing to the rising incidents of violence and terrorism in Kashmir, the tourism of the state is hit badly. People wanting to spend a vacation in the ‘Paradise on Earth’ are disappointed because of not being able to fulfill their wish.
In an earlier incident, tourists from Nagpur had to return from Srinagar when the state police asked them to do so. Besides being disappointed, the family was quite scared as they had seen many damaged vehicles returning from Srinagar on their way.
The experience of Sangeeta Pandey, one of the tourists, was recorded and uploaded by a Twitter user @kpnewschannel on Tuesday. In the video, the woman shares her bad experience on her visit to Srinagar and says that she will never visit Kashmir again.

Owing to the continuous unrest in valley brought about by terrorist activities, Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism has been hit severely. The Indian Express had recently reported that the number of tourists visiting the valley has fallen to 10 per cent of the expected number. Some hoteliers have blamed the media for this drop saying that Kashmir has been portrayed in a “negative” way.
Following the drop in tourism and insecurity amidst the travelers, Kashmir’s tourism department has started a helpline for holiday makers visiting the state. But the above video suggests that the helpline can only be of little help until the key issue is tackled.
