Technology has literally brought science fiction to life today. What is simple science today was nothing more than a stuff of fiction a few years back. The rapid rate at which technology has reached out to change our lives as we know it is nothing short of mind-boggling. Today we are surrounded by gadgets and devices that our ancestors did not even manage to fathom. The everyday advances in science and technology have brought to life some of the wildest dreams of inventors and scientists. Even now, a lot of futuristic products that we are waiting to get our hands on are already in testing or development phases. That said; let us now look at the top 10 futuristic products we are waiting for.
Drones have already been used for warfare and now we are anxiously waiting to use them in other fields as well. Law enforcement agencies in some parts of the world are already using drones and very soon even aviation agencies will also begin their use. Drones can reach places where humans cannot.
9. Jet packs:
Jet packs are every kid’s fantasy. Ever since science fiction in the 1920s gave birth to the idea, jetpacks have always been much sought after futuristic gadgets. Functional jet packs are available and used for various purposes which include issuing them to astronauts in outer space. For the average person, this science fiction gadget brought to life can come into use as a mode of transportation. It’s only a matter of time before we have safe jetpacks that everyone can use.
8. Artificial meat:
Artificial meat or synthetic meat is not to be confused with imitative meat which is primarily a vegan food for those who like to enjoy the taste of meat without actually eating it. Although artificial meat has been around since 2008, sustainable commercial production is not possible and although available it is very expensive. Artificial meat could very well be in demand soon as demands for food is constantly on the rise but the supplies are severely short.
7. Robot Assistants:
Bringing many science fiction movies to life, a robot assistant is a soon to become reality. Robots today have become highly advanced and the range of things that they are made to do is ever-increasing. With strides made in touch technology and sensor tech, these robots may very well be capable of doing whatever humans can do. Imagine a worker that never tires, never slows down and may never really need a break from work.
6. Flying cars:
A flying car was put up for pre-sale at the 2012 New York auto show. Taking a page out of the sci-fi cartoon series The Jetsons, flying cars could essentially solve most traffic problems and would also save up on time. Imagine yourself flying to work on an invisible highway every day. Flight is something that humans have been obsessed over for a really long time; flying cars could very well be introduced over the next decade or so changing the way we commute forever.
5. 3D virtual reality:
3-dimensional virtual realities already exist and are getting more and more advanced with each passing day. A headset or glasses that launch you into a world created completely by computer simulations, a world where you can hear, see and perhaps even feel the reality created by computers. 3D television and movies have already created a storm and everyone is for 3D these days but just imagine being able to completely merge into a 3D virtual reality. Living inside a game is the greatest fantasy for any gamer or game lover.
4. The invisible car:
The invisible car could be a reality by 2014 as a major car manufacturer already put out a prototype for this kind of vehicle. Although it does not serve any major practical purposes, it is a very cool thing to see, or maybe ‘not’. Whether you see the invisible car or not, one thing is for sure that it will become production ready in a few years. You should go book yours if there are any pre orders up.
3. Wireless electricity:
Electricity that does not need wires sound like a very futuristic concept but it has been around since the days of the discovery of electromagnetism. Transmitting wireless electricity over a small area is already possible and there are many companies looking to expand that area to a larger distance. Just think about it: running all your electrical appliances without any wires or chords. Isn’t that truly a fitting image of the future?
2. Driverless cars:
Speaking of commuting, driverless cars may become a reality very soon. With the incredible amount of sophistication that has found its way into cars today like GPS, accident warnings, self parking and even things like suspension control, it’s only a matter of time before we manage to develop sensors strong enough that the vehicle may not need a driver at all. A self driving car is certainly on the anvil as several prototypes have already been tested out.
1. Mind reading technology:
This is the favorite one out of all futuristic products: a computer or a device that responds to thought alone. It sounds too good to be true but a lot of research is already done in this regard. A person may simply need to wear a headset which reads and relays instructions from the brain. Computers are already being looked into and once that technology takes off, it could very well integrate everything that we can think of on a headset. Bringing science fiction and fantasy to life, the day may not even be far when we can communicate only via the power of our brain and some relays like a headset. Call it telepathy or call it telekinesis, it’s all going to happen soon.
