While the success of Google is immeasurable and we hardly pay heed to its failures, it doesn’t mean its products have always been successful. Ok, now this product would have never been such a failure, except for its name. Launched as price comparison product, it was an initial success where people could post their queries about products like information on vendors selling it, etc. But later its name was changed to Google product search and this was when it lost the last of its appeal.

9. Google shared stuff:
The Google shared stuff was launched as a social bookmarking service and it was one of Google’s biggest disasters. The idea never really took off. There were other competitors who did far better and also since it was not properly integrated with other Google services, it could never be used to the max. Later, some of its features were merged with Google Reader.

In 2005, Google acquired two properties simultaneously – one was Android and the other was Dodgeball, a social service for mobiles. Dodgeball was used to give information on the nearby places when a location was entered but back then it was an utter failure and was discarded in 2009.
7. Web accelerator:
This product was launched by Google for speeding up web access. It was based on the premise of compressing data and facilitating a quicker web access, but this would not allow playing videos and so the product was criticized and ultimately discarded.

While the world is going viral and even newspapers are fighting hard battles for an online presence, Google started experimenting with print ads, which are almost on the verge of extinction. The product was thus bound for its destiny.

This is a prominent one among failed products of Google. In spite of its innovative technology, the main reason for Google TV’s failure was the ban which most cable operators had put on its services. But, once again, Google is upbeat about re-launching this service, and this time in Europe.

Have you wondered paying for answers online, using a service by Google? Most of you wouldn’t think of it, especially in times when you get free answers by Google search engine. And, also when this service was launched, there was no provision for notifying users when their questions had been answered and therefore the service was off the market.

Google wave was not such a bad concept but using it was definitely complicated which lead to its sad demise.
