Last week, we saw how south Indian actresses Sri Reddy and Maadhavi Latha lashed out at their fellow Tollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh for saying that casting couch does not exist in south Indian film industry. Sri Reddy had even threatened to expose the filmmakers who practice casting couch.
In an effort towards this direction, struggling Tollywood actress Sri Reddy took the extreme step of stripping on the street in front of Movie Artists Association’s office at Filmnagar in Hyderabad, in front of cameras. Following this, she was booked by the police under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code for doing obscene act in a public place.
The actress has claimed that she has been denied the membership of Movie Artists Association (MAA) despite having done three films. The association even banned and threatened to suspend the members who work with her. She also alleged that she has been sexually exploited by many producers and directors. She further said that many people in the industry demanded her obscene pictures, promising her roles in films which she never got.
In one of her recent interviews, Sri Reddy told India Today that she is a victim and one of the producer’s son sexually exploited her in the studio. She further said:
“Studio belongs to the government; they have assigned the property to the guy. Why is the government giving studios?”
Saying that she will reveal the name in time, the actress further elaborated the incident of being sexually exploited by a successful producer’s son saying:
“I will provide photos also. That is my Brahmastra. He used to take me to the studio and he used to f**k me. He is the son of a top producer who is ruling the Telugu film industry. He used to force sex (on me). He would ask me to come to the studio and I said I will go only to talk, not for any sexual act. But after going there, he used to force (me to have) sex.”
Sri Reddy also alleged that the common use of a studio is to physically exploit actresses. She said:
“Studios are the safest place to use for sex. Big directors, producers and heroes use studios as brothels. It’s like a red-light area. And it is the safest place because no one will come inside; police also will not check, and the government is not taking this as a big issue.”
The actress alleged that producers and directors mostly cast north Indian actresses because they cater to their sexual demands and that Telugu actresses are also exploited but not given work even after that.
In another shocking statement, Sri Reddy said that MAA offered her crores of rupees to keep quiet. She said:
“They were willing to give me crores and crores. I did not do it only for myself, I did it for all the girls and women who are facing this problem. I will fight till my last breath. They have already smashed my career. If I get any offer, then I will do, otherwise I will go back to TV (Sri was a news presenter and anchor before she entered films). But I will not stop fighting.”
