In this animation video by NASA, it shows Arctic sea ice movements in a stunning time-lapse spanning three decades. The Arctic sea ice age is depicted in different colors. Younger sea ice, or first-year ice, is shown in a dark shade of blue while the ice that is 5 or more years old is shown as white. The ice is shrinking, and as it loses mass, it becomes more at risk from warming waters and atmosphere.
