A thief is a thief – whether he steals a pen or loots a bank. What most thieves have in common is a fearless sense of character and the willingness to escape without getting caught. They do everything from wearing discreet face masks, hand gloves to avoid finer prints, weapons for self-protection and a distinct walking style that hardly makes any noise.
One such thief thought he had a perfect day to do what he does best – steal money from an ATM. He went in with a gas cutter, face mask and hand gloves in preparation for his heroic event. And his target was a kiosk in Vishwas Nagar near Shahdara, Delhi.
When he conducted a recce of the ATM prior to his theft, he noticed there there was no security guard posted there. On April 16 night, he went to the kiosk with all his equipment, but something else was in store for him. It were the CCTV cameras which he thought he had disabled by spraying black paint on them.
After spraying paint the three CCTV cameras installed above the machine, an alert bank staff member noticed the surveillance screens go blank suddenly and in an incredible sense of alertness, immediately informed the cops.
This thief was caught in time after he broke into the ATM kiosk to loot possibly thousands in cash. He was identified as criminal Nazir alias Babu (22). When the PCR van reached the spot around 11:30 pm, they found the shutters halfway down and managed to break open the doors.
But here, there were some unusual visuals. After they entered, they noticed that Nazir had during the robbery attempt, caught his hand badly stuck inside the machine!
The criminal has since been arrested for theft and trespassing. He used to work as an electrician in an electrical company in Maharashtra, before shifting base to Delhi for better opportunities. Clearly, getting his choices ‘wrong’ instead of ‘right’!
