Army Major, Jawan Killed In Gun-battle With Terrorists In Kashmir’s Shopian District

As per a recent report, Indian Army Major Kamlesh Pandey and two jawans were martyred in a gun-battle that took place this Thursday. The gun-battle took place after terrorists attacked the army in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The attack took place when the Major and jawans were on a march. Later, the Army surrounded the whole area and a search operation was initiated. The three Army men injured during the attack were airlifted to a military base hospital in Srinagar. Major Kamlesh Pandey and a soldier identified as Tenzin had deep bullet injuries and were declared dead. The condition of the third injured soldier, Kripal Singh, is also extremely critical.

The attack took place at Shopian district of J & K


As mentioned in another report, a senior police official said,


Following a tip off about the presence of terrorists in Matribugh Zoipora village of the district (Shopian), a cordon-and-search operation was launched by a joint party of 62 RR of Army, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir police and Central Reserve Police Force.

The terrorists were hiding and they opened fire after security forces reached the site. The responsibility of the attack has been claimed by Hizbul Mujahideen. As per the report, two terrorists were killed during an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

It has also been reported that one of the terrorists had an involvement in an attack that took place on a bank cash van in the district. This attack happened in May when five policemen and two bank guards were killed. Two weapons have been discovered so far from the site of the attack.
