On Saturday, J&K policeman Azhar Mehmood and three civilians were killed in a terrorist attack carried out by Hizbul Mujaheedin in Anantnag.
Mehmood came under attack while he was regulating traffic after a road accident. Eyewitnesses claimed that the terrorists tried to snatch away the guns from the policemen and began to fire at them. Mehmood who grabbed the dead terrorist by his throat, was shot and killed by the other terrorists firing at him.
Earlier this morning, funeral processions in South Kashmir –barely 10 kms away from each other– saw a terrorist’s funeral being attended by thousands of Kashmiris and a cop’s funeral being attended just by his family.
Mehmood’s relative, Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, commented,

He was working with police for the last eight years. He is survived by two children, one is just eight month old and his wife.
The dead terrorist, Fayaz Ahmad Aishwar, who was also involved in the terrorist attack on the BSF camp in Udhampur in 2015, had a reward of Rs. 2 lakh on his head.
Since Burhan Wani’s death, which saw a massive unrest in the valley for five months, police said that terrorists have been roaming fearlessly in the valley and security forces faced stiff resistance from the public who wanted to support the anti-national elements.
