On March 23, 2018, while debating with actor-politician Posani Krishna Murali about the state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh, popular TV anchor E Sambashiva Rao, referring to actors, had said asked Posani “Aren’t there whores and brokers” in the Telugu film industry? This had left actors of the Telugu film industry deeply offended. Shocked by his question, Posani had also reacted strongly to it during the debate.
The channel, TV5 News on which the show had been aired even issued an apology but this wasn’t sufficient to calm down the actors. In order to condemn the TV anchor’s statement, members of The Movie Artists Association (MAA) came together in a meet.
One of the actors who was a part of this meet was Rakul Preet Singh, a popular Tollywood actress. She lashed out at the disgraceful comment by the anchor. According to a report by India Today, she also said that she hasn’t faced any incident of casting couch and that it does not exist in the Telugu film industry. Her words about the Telugu film industry looked like a pretty picture where everything looked alright.
But this did not go well with two actresses of the industry- Sri Reddy and Madhavi Latha. In two separate statements, the actresses hit out at Rakul Preet saying that casting couch is indeed an issue in the Telugu film industry.
As per a report by Indiaglitz, Madhavi Latha has said that Rakul Preet is lying about not having faced any casting couch incident because she fears losing out roles in big films. She also advised Rakul Preet that instead of making false statements, she should warn young girls who are aspiring to become successful actresses so that they can prepare and protect themselves from casting couch.
Similarly, Sri Reddy, the actress who threatened to expose Telugu filmmakers involved in casting couch also slammed Rakul Preet. She said that though she respects Rakul, the latter should speak the truth about the casting couch.
There has been no reaction from Rakul Preet Singh on these comments so far. Do you think she is lying about such a serious matter? Share your views with us in the comments section.
