It seems like the voice against the so-called ‘casting couch‘ in the film industry is gaining more momentum with more and more actresses joining in to speak up against the issue. A Telugu actress being the latest entrant in the list of many who have raised their voice against it.
In what appears to be a sensational incident on Saturday morning, Telugu actress Sri Reddy took an arguably bold step to protest against the increasing casting couch in Tollywood. She resorted to a strip protest in front of the Movie Artistes Association’s office at Filmnagar in Hyderabad to protest against the problem.
The actress came to the film chamber in a salwar kameez and started stripping down to her undergarments in front of the cameras.
Sri Reddy alleged that she was sexually exploited by many producers and directors. She claimed that she was also denied membership of the Movie Artistes Association (MAA) despite having acted in three films. The actress also alleged that several people in the industry demanded obscene pictures from her in exchange for roles in movies.
“This is the only way I can think of expressing my grief. Since I got no roles despite exposing myself to several people in the film industry, the only way I can protest is by going nude publicly,” she said.
Sitting in front of the MAA office and talking to the media, the actress alleged that local talent and Telugu heroines were not being given chances while heroines from other states were being roped in.
Reddy accused MAA of denying her a membership just because she questioned the wrong-doings in the industry. She alleged that she was denied roles in films because she refused to give in to demands. She has threatened that she will make it a big issue at the national and international level if her demands are not met.
It is reportedly said that Sri Reddy was open to commenting and ranting about the casting couch in Tollywood from the last few days. In the past, she had reportedly accused top directors, producers and male actors of taking advantage of young actresses seeking work in the industry.

The actress was, however, arrested by the police for her obscene act and a case under Section 294 of the IPC was booked against her.
Meanwhile, casting couch has been a severe disease spreading in Bollywood and also South Indian industries for a long time. It’s time to listen to the voice of the victims. It’s time to do away the nonsense. Everything has to be fair. No exploitation in the name of giving roles or work no matter in which field. Wake up, Indians.
