In a press conference in Patna on Friday, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s younger son and deputy chief minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, got angry at a female reporter from ‘Republic TV’ and called the channel “anti-national”.
RJD chief, Lalu Prasad Yadav, had called a press conference on the CBI raids that were conducted at his residence earlier the same day.
Residences of Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and son Tejashwi Yadav, were raided earlier on Friday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged irregularities in giving two railway hotels on lease to a private company during his tenure as Railway Minister.
When the Republic TV reporter asked a question about the raids, an enraged Tejashwi Yadav told the reporter that her channel is an “anti-national news channel”. The deputy chief minister also said that he has completely boycotted Republic TV.
Lalu Prasad Yadav could be seen calming him down. However, Tejashwi Yadav could not be stopped from lashing out at the media and went on to ask her if she has ever asked Prime Minister Modi as to why he wears expensive suits. On this statement of his son, Lalu Yadav scolded Tejashwi and asked him to stay quiet and not make news.
In the press conference, Lalu Prasad Yadav has rejected all the allegations of irregularities regarding the railway hotels and said that the tender for the same was issued in 2003 during the tenure of NDA government. He also said that there was no reason to involve Rabri Devi and Tejashwi and that Tejashwi was a minor at the time.
After the press conference was over, supporters of Lalu Prasad Yadav could be seen asking the Republic TV reporters to leave.
Soon after its launch, Republic TV executed a number of exposés on the RJD chief for corruption and his association with Shahabuddin, the jailed Siwan don.
In reaction to Tejashwi’s statement, Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief of Republic TV, said that if Lalu and his son call Republic TV anti-national, then he takes it as a compliment.
