An image posted by a Bangladeshi cricket fan that showed Bangladeshi fast bowler Taskin Ahmed carrying the severed head of the Indian limited-overs captain MS Dhoni, has sparked an outrage among Indian cricket fans.
Top-ranked India will take on Bangladesh in the Asia Cup T20 Final in Dhaka on March 6.
Clearly, through this photoshopped image, Bangladesh’s cricket fans have taken the on-field rivalry too far.
When asked for a response about the photoshopped photo, India team director Ravi Shastri said that they do not read newspapers and that their job was only to play cricket.
However, this is not the first time, a Bangladeshi fan has targeted the visiting team on social media.
Earlier in 2015, when India struggled to cope with pacer Mustafizur Rahman, a Bangladeshi newspaper had published a picture of half-shaved heads of the Indian players, in order to show the after-effects of Mustafizur’s ‘cutters’.
India crushed Bangladesh by 45 runs in the opening match of the tournament, but the hosts have since executed a turnaround, winning three matches on the trot to qualify for the final.
