Protests against cow slaughter have taken a digital route in India as Kolkata-based trust Go Seva Parivar has launched a social media campaign of taking selfies with cows. The idea aims to spread the message of cow preservation.
The trust has launched a digital initiative with hashtag ‘#selfiewithgomata’ on Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter, asking supporters to take selfies with cows.
It has also started a contest for the best cow selfie and received more than 600 entries.
The movement, localized at first, has since gained national traction.
The initiative comes at a time when the country has seen protests over nation-wide ban on cow slaughter.
