The Maharastra team are playing against Delhi and had started day 2 of the match in a dominating position.

Till last update, Gugale had declared Maharashtra’s innings at 635/2 while he was playing at 351* and Bawne was batting at 258*.

They both had created a new Ranji record of 594* runs in partnership, which broke year 1946/47 record of 577 runs partnership between VS Hazare and Gul Mohammad.
What is more, Gugale has now also become Maharashtra’s second highest scorer in RanjiTrophy, with Nimbalkar’s 443* runs record still remaining unbroken.

Gugale is also only the second player after Bill Ponsford (429 v Tasmania,1923) to score 350+ runs in his maiden FC match as captain.

Though the team was just 30 runs short of the world record, Gugale decided to declare Maharastra’s innings so as to give his team a fighting chance to win the match instead of just drawing it.
