Sushma Swaraj Targets UPA’s Presidential Candidate, Meira Kumar, Shares An Old Lok Sabha Video

External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, has tweeted an old video of the opposition’s Presidential candidate. The video from April 2013 has the then Lok Sabha speaker, Meira Kumar, interrupting Sushma Swaraj, the then leader of the opposition, several times during a 6 minute speech.

In what can be considered a direct and clear attack on the opposition’s Presidential nominee, Bhartiya Janta Party leader Sushma Swaraj’s tweet said,

This is how Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar treated the leader of the opposition.

In the six minute video that Sushma Swaraj has shared on Twitter, she can be seen attacking the UPA government led by Congress while talking about the various alleged scams and continued stalling of the house by its government. At the conclusion of the video, BJP Members of Parliament led by Sushma Swaraj can be seen walking out of the house.

Sushma Swaraj has also shared an article titled ‘Speaker interrupted Sushma 60 times in 6-minute speech’ published by ‘The Pioneer’, a leading national daily, on May 3, 2013. The post states that Kumar repeatedly used words like “Alright”, “Okay”, “Thank you”, and “I have to proceed” until Sushma Swaraj made the announcement of her decision to walk out.

Meira Kumar has been nominated as the opposition’s candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections. She will be contesting against BJP’s candidate, Ram Nath Kovind. A Dalit leader and former minister, 72 year-old Meira Kumar is the daughter of former deputy Prime Minister, Jagjivan Ram. Kumar became the first female speaker of the Lok Sabha in 2009 and continued her term until 2014.
