One of India’s favorite politicians, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is well-known for her prompt responses on social media and providing swift help to people in distress. People from India as well as other countries reach out to her for aid regarding international matters and visa issues, and the minister always makes sure to do her best. Several times, she has hit the headlines for providing support to a number of Pakistani nationals seeking medical visa to India.
Now the minister is in the news for offering help to a foreign tourist in India. Earlier this week, reports of a Russian tourist named Evangelin begging for alms at the Kumarakottam Sri Subramanya Swami temple of Tamil Nadu did the rounds in the media.
The 24-year-old man was left with no option but to beg when he ran out of cash in his wallet and balance in his mobile phone. His ATM card’s pin blocked, he couldn’t withdraw more money and hence opted to beg. The devotees at the temple were startled to see a foreigner begging outside the temple and informed the police who found that his passport and other documents were valid. Then the police helped him with Rs.500 so that he could go to Chennai and contact Russian embassy there.
After learning about the same, Sushma Swaraj came to his rescue and tweeted that her officials in Chennai will help Evangelin. Have a look at Sushma Swaraj’s tweet below:
Evangelin – Your country Russia is our time tested friend. My officials in Chennai will provide you all help. https://t.co/6bPv7MFomI
