While the world moves towards a better, more tolerant, more inclusive future, India marches, undeterred, on its path of hate and exclusion. Sushma Swaraj, the resident posterhag for said hate and exclusion, and all things ridiculous in general, is over the moon about the new surrogacy bill she just birthed.
Here’s what the bill says/does:
Unmarried couples, single parents, live-in partners and homosexuals cannot opt for surrogacy as per the new bill: Swaraj.

Big celebrities who not only have one but two children, a son and a daughter, even then they went ahead with surrogacy: Sushma Swaraj

So, erm, lemme get this straight. Just because Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan used surrogacy to bring kids into the world, suddenly it’s unethical for celebrities (or anyone the state doesn’t deem fit) to have children through surrogacy?!! Are you freaking kidding me?!!
The bill basically makes it impossible for anyone who isn’t straight and married to have a kid. Shah Rukh and Aamir are both in stable heterosexual marriages! So, what does Sushma Swaraj really have a problem with? Celebrities having kids? Or surrogacy being used for profit? Or what?!!
First they wanted to control who does what in their bedrooms, and now they’ve abandoned all pretence of civilized behaviour and they’re going to decide what goes in, and comes out, which vagina. Oh happy day! Oh glory be!
Are we still living in the dark ages? Does a woman have no degree of control over what she does with her body? Really?!! Rape victims, if impregnated, are expected to carry the pregnancy to term, and surrogacy is where this psychotic woman decided to draw the line?!! Why? What is so wrong with people paying to bring a child into the world? How evil, how twisted, do you have to be, to look at surrogacy and think, “Must shut this factory down!”
No, really, think about it! This is a country where kids are thrown in garbage bins, or left in bushes, left anywhere, if they happen to be of the wrong gender; where female feticide, female infanticide, fetal sex determination, are all happening all too often. But Sushma Swaraj decides it’s wrong for people with the financial, though not the biological, means to have children! Really?!!
