Slamming Virat Kohli’s abysmal performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on May 5 said that he is irritated the way Kohli is leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team.
Elaborating on his point, Gavaskar said that more than Kohli’s failure to score big this season, he is disappointed with Kohli’s shot selection and that Kohli’s talent this year has been getting out.
Kohli in his last match against KIXP had charged down the pitch against bowler Sandeep Sharma and swung the bat hard, he in the process had completely missed the inswinger to gotten bowled.
In the match against KKR, Kohli was out for a duck as he had gone for a wild drive on the third ball itself.
What is more, they were all low score matches and Kohli didn’t need to play big and just play wise.
Thus advising him to “look in the mirror”, Gavaskar said Kohli needs to bat with more responsibility and remember he is the captain a team that is not doing well in the IPL.
RCB is currently on a five-match losing streak and Gavaskar felt Kohli as their captain has not been able to inspire them.
Gavaskar also slammed other senior RCB players for trying to play big shots when they could have just gone for hitting fours.
The Kohli-led RCB just has just five points from 12 matches this IPL season and are already out of contention for the play-off berth this year.
