For the security of the country, India is preparing to upgrade the supersonic Brahmos Missile. To be developed in collaboration with Russia, the design for it has been conceptualised on the mythical sudarshan chakra. Specialty of this missile will be that once fired, it would be able return to its original position after having penetrated its target. The Padma Bhushan awardee scientist, at the sixth convocation of GLA University in Mathura on November 1, spoke at length about the new Brahmos II missile. Pillai said:

After the supersonic missiles, India is working on the development of hypersonic missiles, which will be nine times more powerful than the former. No search device shall be able to locate the missile. The scientists are further trying to make these missiles fit for reuse.

It maybe recalled that Dr A S Pillai was a member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) team of ISRO led by former President of India, A P J Abdul Kalam. Talking more about Brahmos II, the acclaimed scientist said:

The biggest achievement of the missile is that neither the missile, nor its program or operating computer can be traced by locating devices, including the most sophisticated ones.

Giving a brief about the next big project being worked upon, he told the gathering that a substance called Helium-3 had been discovered, which is not a radioactive substance like Uranium, and can be used to generate power from nuclear substances without harming any living beings or the environment in any way.

Apart from being the MD and CEO of BAIL, Pillai also acts as an honorary professor at various premium institutes in India, including IIT Delhi, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Indian Institute of Science.
