Amid all the tension created out of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s inability to perform his best at the recently concluded T20 series against New Zealand, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy recently took to his Twitter account to question the criticisers of Dhoni, urging them not to target ruthlessly a player as great as the former Indian captain. This tweet came after certain former crickets, like medium pacer Ajit Agarkar, asked the BCCI to think of having some other player to replace Dhoni in the shortest form of the game.

Not just Subramanian Swamy but legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, Indian coach Ravi Shastri and the Indian team captain Virat Kohli also showed their faith on Dhoni despite the controversy creeping in from many corners.

After India’s loss at the second T20 International in Rajkot, Ajit Agarkar said that it is high time for India to think beyond Dhoni when it comes to T20. In his criticism of Dhoni, Agarkar was further heard saying that India will not feel the lack of Dhoni in the format. Not just Sehwag but former cricketers VVS Laxman and Akash Chopra were also vocal in their criticism of Dhoni.

According to Laxman, although Dhoni makes an invincible part of the Indian Cricket Team in the ODI format, it is high time for him to step aside in T20 cricket and make space for a young talent to step in. He also cited the difference between Kohli and Dhoni’s strike rate – which was almost double – to beat his point into bush.

Former opener and commentator Akash Chopra was also seen harboring similar view and wished some other person replace Dhoni for the upcoming T20 clash against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, as soon as Subramanian Swamy took to Twitter to express his disgust over this “continuing targeting of Dhoni”, Twitterattis also started pouring their support to the “renaissance man” of Indian cricket. Let’s have a look at what Twitterattis had to say –

True that – Dhoni is indeed a role model for millions in the country!
