26 boys and 2 girls from Kashmir cleared the IIT-Jee exam after receiving coaching from the Indian Army.
Kashmir Super-40 initiative of the Indian Army with partners CSRL and Petronet LNG has broken previous records with 28 students cracking the IIT-JEE Mains exam for 2017. With a high success rate of 78 per cent, this initiative is now at par with the best coaching centers in the nation.
Of the 28 students, nine belong to South Kashmir, 10 were from North Kashmir, seven from Kargil/Ladakh and two from Jammu. This batch was also the first to have five girls from the valley and were coached in Delhi, out of which two cleared the mains.
Under this flagship scheme, the Army selects candidates through an entrance test who are then interviewed at various colleges through April and May. Coaching and stay is free for the students.
Following the immense success, the Army has decided to increase the number of students for coaching to 50 which would include five girls. Apart from IIT, several other students have cleared exams for other engineering colleges across the country.
