You’ll Go ROFL When You Learn How Indian Railways Got The Toilets

Yes, we all are bit reluctant to use Indian railways toilets but, in the time of emergency, we have no choice. However, have you ever thought how railways got the toilet?

There is a real funny story behind it.

Okhil Chandra Sen, who was travelling through railways in 1900, had to miss his train due to a disastrous trip to the lavatory at Ahmedpur station.

After that, he wrote a funny letter to Sahibganj divisional railway office, which is believed to be the reason behind the introduction of toilets in the Indian trains.

Indian Railways didn’t have toilets before that period.


The letter, which is regarded as important, is held in Railway Museum’s archives.
