We have been comparing the Australian skipper, Steven Smith with Indian skipper Virat Kohli a lot. Looking at their score records, Steven Smith and Virat Kohli are quite close when it comes to scoring centuries in Test matches. Smith is 3 centuries ahead of Kohli. However, if you talk about One-day International matches, Steven Smith has no match with Virat Kohli. There is a huge gap between Kohli and Smith in ODIs. Kohli’s scores say that he has scored 30 centuries in just 194 matches and with this score, the Indian run machine is second in the list of most centuries in ODIs.
Whereas, the Australian skipper has managed to score just 8 centuries in 98 matches that he has played so far. On asking the reason behind such huge gap between Steven and Kohli ODI tons, the Australian skipper has something really weird to say.
Steven feels that because Kohli has played a lot of ODIs, he has managed to become the second in the list of highest number of centuries scored in ODIs.
I think India play a lot more ODI cricket than we do. I’m not sure how many games Virat has played. He is a very good player.
Insisting on how personal milestones does not bother him, Steven said,
I am not worried about personal accolades. I am here to try and win a series. The Indian team has a very good top seven and all guys are capable of scoring big runs. Our bowlers have to be on the top of their game to keep them quiet this series.
Throwing light upon the World Cup 2019 and Australian team’s preparations, the 28-year-old cricketer shared,
We have about 30 ODI games before the World Cup. For us it is about trying to find the right group of players to fill all slots.
Conditions are obviously slightly different to what they will be in England. But I think it is a good opportunity to put their names up there and hopefully win some games for Australia.
